Visit of the NAS of Ukraine Leadership to the Institute of General Energy: Strategic Developments and Innovations for the Energy Sector.
On April 1, 2026, the Institute of General Energy of the NAS of Ukraine (IGE) hosted a distinguished delegation led by the President of the Academy, Academician Anatoly Zagorodny. The purpose of the visit was to review the institution’s cutting-edge developments and discuss its vital role in ensuring Ukraine’s energy independence.
The Director of the Institute, Academician Vitalii Babak, presented the key research areas of the team. He focused on expert consultancy activities, international partnerships (particularly with the Austrian center IIASA), and the institution’s strategic development plans.
The delegation showed particular interest in the practical facilities. During the tour of the energy audit laboratory, the results of a comprehensive evaluation of the ‘Akademichnyi’ Hotel were demonstrated, which served as the scientific foundation for its subsequent energy modernization.
The guests also highly praised the achievements of the recently established laboratory of energy supply and control systems.
Artur Zaporozhets, Deputy Director and Doctor of Technical Sciences, spoke about the latest digital tools. He presented the “GreenPowerAtlas” system, a software developed by young scientists that analyzes NASA satellite data to calculate renewable energy potential and is now fully ready for commercial application.
In turn, Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) Andrii Bosak and Dmytro Matushkin demonstrated their research on the optimization of electric vehicle charging stations within solar microgrids. This project was honored with the President of Ukraine’s Award for Young Scientists in 2025.
The issue of post-war reconstruction of the energy sector was highlighted by Oleksandr Novoseltsev, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, who emphasized the critical need for transitioning to a low-carbon economy.
Svitlana Kovtun, Deputy Director and Doctor of Technical Sciences, reported on innovations in the field of technical diagnostics. She presented new approaches to monitoring energy facilities, which allow for the optimization of their performance and the safe extension of their operational lifetime.
A report was also delivered by Dmytro Karpenko, Candidate of Technical Sciences, who shared successful experience in integrating artificial intelligence technologies into the energy supply management systems of modern buildings.
The Leadership of the Academy commended the Institute’s commitment to actively supporting and engaging the young generation of researchers.
Summing up the results, Anatoly Zagorodny highly praised the scientific achievements of the team, noting their high publication activity and the active engagement of young people. The President of the NAS of Ukraine emphasized that the developments of the IGE are critically important for building a resilient and independent power system for our state.
