School of Energy Facility Monitoring and Information-Measurement Technologies

Based on the research conducted by this school, the scientific foundations and hardware-software configurations have been created for monitoring energy facilities using acoustic and heat flux sensors. The theoretical principles of noise-based diagnostics have been established, and the theory of diagnostics for on-board power systems and the processing of tomographic information has been advanced. Methods have been developed for forecasting energy equipment component failures under conditions of a sparse number of anomalous deviations. This has enabled an increase in the probability of failure forecasting and enhanced the reliability of monitoring systems across the generation, transportation, and consumption stages of thermal energy, including the utilization of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Furthermore, the scientific and practical foundations for a reference base ensuring the uniformity of heat flux density measurements have been established and deployed, aligning with global standards of metrological measurement support. The school has also produced original methodologies for material diagnostics; methods for the comprehensive detection, localization, and classification of defect categories in aerospace systems; and expert systems for energy facility monitoring powered by neural networks utilizing current and historical data. Additionally, researchers have formulated scientific-methodological principles for the statistical investigation of how energy balance components affect air pollutant emissions, a methodology for organizing linkages and interactions within distributed generation frameworks to ensure self-sufficiency through the integration of battery energy storage capacities for renewable energy sources, and the foundations for enhancing the efficiency and operational safety of the interconnected power system through the electrification of heat supply systems.

School of Forecasting the Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex

The scientific foundations, mathematical tools, models, and methods have been created for the long-term forecasting of the country’s economic demand for fuel and energy resources. This includes the formulation of optimal fuel and energy balances, as well as the optimization of the development of both the national fuel and energy complex (FEC) as a whole and its sectoral systems (the coal industry, electric power, nuclear power, oil and gas complexes, and heat supply systems), alongside the advancement of regional energy systems and non-conventional and renewable energy sources. Furthermore, modeling tools have been developed to assess the environmental impacts of energy facilities and to integrate the constraints and requirements of environmental legislation regarding the activities of the energy sector. The school has also established the scientific foundations, methodological principles, and mathematical software for evaluating the efficiency of energy resource utilization within the country’s economy and social sphere, defining energy efficiency indicators, and calculating both the total potential for energy saving and its realistically achievable volumes.
