Volodymyr Tonkal

Director of the Institute of Energy Saving Problems of the Academy of Sciences of the UkrSSR, which was reorganized into the Institute of General Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine by Resolution No. 83 of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine dated February 26, 1997.

Volodymyr Tonkal was a well-known scientist in the fields of energy, energy saving, and converter technology, and a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Tonkal defended his doctoral dissertation in 1974. In 1982, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the UkrSSR and became a Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the Field of Science and Technology. He was awarded the academic title of Professor in 1984.

From 1967 to 1988, V.Y. Tonkal worked within the apparatus of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the UkrSSR, initially holding the position of Head of the Scientific-Organizational Department, and subsequently serving as the Chief Scientific Secretary of the Academy of Sciences of the UkrSSR.

From 1988 until the end of his life, V.Y. Tonkal’s creative, scientific, and organizational activities were directed towards addressing the problems of energy and energy efficiency, both on a national scale and through concrete research initiatives.

Volodymyr Tonkal is the author of more than 340 scientific works in the fields of energy, energy saving, and converter technology..

Over 35 years of his scientific activity, 15 Doctoral and Candidate of Sciences dissertations have been successfully defended under his leadership and supervision.
