On January 30, 2026, the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences hosted a roundtable discussion on “Energy Security of Ukraine: Inventions and Innovative Developments. Interaction with Educational Institutions and Exchange of Experience.“
The roundtable was attended by research enterprises of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, leading institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the energy sector—specifically the Institute of Renewable Energy and the Institute of General Energy of the NAS of Ukraine—as well as representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, the security and defense sector, and educational and business institutions.
Vitalii Babak, Academician of the NASU and Director of the Institute of General Energy of the NAS of Ukraine, highlighted the critical state of Ukraine’s energy sector. He presented the latest developments of the Institute, whose primary mission is to deliver high-quality, rapid solutions to key challenges facing the development and operation of the national energy system under the integration of Ukraine into the global energy market and the enhancement of energy and economic security.
The current operation and future development of the country’s energy sector are taking place amid unstable internal market relations within the fuel and energy complex and adjacent economic sectors, alongside growing external pressures connected to global economic globalization and the ongoing war with the Russian Federation. These rapidly shifting conditions demand continuous refinement of management methods for the operation and development of the nation’s energy sector, which serves as a guarantor for the stable development and competitiveness of the national economy in both domestic and foreign markets.
This significantly elevates the importance of scientific research in energy systems analysis and forecasting. Such research aims to identify strategic vectors for energy infrastructure development, optimize the structure of the energy sector and its fuel bases, establish flexible state management mechanisms in the energy field, and rapidly detect, investigate, and deploy the most efficient energy technologies of the future.
